Veritas is the first novel in the Verity Miller, Private Investigation Agent Series.
The Great War has been over for 3 months, but, for Glasgow, there is no respite. The city is in crisis. Shipyard workers are striking and a riot in George Square. Housing is scarce, and the misery of ordinary people is being exploited by violent slum landlords. Police, politicians and public officials are in their pockets. For the lucky few, there are fortunes to be made, but the cost is great for ordinary Glaswegians.
On a freezing morning, a body is found in a collapsed tenement. A woman is missing. Soon, the violence spreads 70 miles east to the sleepy coastal town of North Berwick where two people lie dead.
